Simone Biles becomes first woman to win 5 U.S. All-Around Gymnastics Championships

According to a Team USA article, “Simone Biles 2.0: She’s Back And Is Now The First Woman To Win 5 U.S. All-Around Titles,” Simone Biles has becomes the first woman to win 5 US All-Around Gymnastics Championships.

On Sunday, 21-year-old, Biles won the gold medal in the all-around in each of her five appearances at the event. She has won a total of 16 gold medals across every discipline. She didn’t participate in the 2017 championship, she took a year off. USA Gymnastics started awarding all-around national champions in 1963.

According to Penny,

“Biles becomes the oldest women’s all-around champion in 47 years. Linda Metheny Mulvihill, at age 24, tied a 16-year-old Joan Moore Gnat for the title in 1971.”
