Serena Williams, without catsuit, defeats Magda Linette in opening round of US Open

With an impressive victory, Serena Williams defeated Magda Linette in the opening round of the US Open.

Williams, 36-year-old, totally outmatched Linette, 26-year-old, in straight sets, 6-4 6-0. Williams victory over Linette moves her to 68-1 all-time in opening-round matches at major events throughout her career.

Few days earlier, Bernard Guidicelli, the French Open President banned catsuits for the 2019 tournament. However, it appeared as if Williams hit back in her own way, wearing a one-shoulder black Virgil Abloh bodysuit, completed with an actual tutu. The body suit was a collaboration between Nike and Abloh.

Meanwhile, Nike responded to the French Open banning of Williams’ catsuit by posting a picture of the suit across their social media channels.  In Nike’s message of support for Williams, their message read as follows: “You can take the superhero out of her costume, but you can never take away her superpowers.”
