Chance The Rapper purchased Chicagoist website made announcement in song

Chicago’s very own, Chancelor Jonathan Bennett, known professionally as Chance the Rapper, announced that he had acquired the website Chicagoist. Chicagoist covers Chicago news, arts, events, food, drinks and everything else Chicago.

Chance the Rapper, 25-year-old, recently released four new songs and, in one of them, announced that he had bought Chicagoist, a website most recently owned by WNYC. WNYC was part of a consortium of public radio stations that bought the Gothamist family of eight city-centric websites in February. Gothamist was founded in 2003 and the sites were independently owned until their sale to Mr. Ricketts’s company in 2017.

Laura Walker, the chief executive of New York Public Radio (which includes WNYC) said in a statement: “We are delighted that the Chicagoist assets are finding a new home in the hands of a proud Chicagoan.”

On one of his tracks, “I Might Need Security,” Chance raps “I bought the Chicagoist / just to run you racist b$%^&*# [expletive] out of business,” and force the resignation of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
